Challenge

ARTKB is an art and design studio in Phoenix, Arizona. They needed a portfolio website that felt closer to experiencing the work in person. Their existing digital presence was limited and didn’t reflect the immersive, visual nature of their artwork.

The site needed to do two things at once:

• Keep the art in control: strong visual impact, minimal interface noise, and layouts that never compete with the work.
• Stay easy to run: scalable tools to manage exhibitions (upcoming, current, and past), maintain detailed artist profiles, and handle purchase and commission inquiries without creating extra admin work.

Search visibility was part of the brief as well. ARTKB needed solid technical SEO fundamentals—especially for image search—without compromising presentation.

Discovery

We defined success in practical terms: visitors should be able to browse like they’re walking through a digital gallery, and the ARTKB team should be able to publish and update content without relying on a developer.

From there, we mapped the site around how ARTKB actually operates. Exhibitions naturally move from upcoming to current to past, and artists need a consistent home for biographical context, curated work, and exhibition history. We also outlined the inquiry flow so it would be quick for visitors to send a message and straightforward for the team to manage on the back end.

Because the site is image-led, performance and discoverability couldn’t be an afterthought. That shaped decisions around responsive image delivery, sensible loading behavior in galleries, and structured data that helps search engines understand creative work and events.

Approach

We kept the work centered on three priorities:

• Presentation: build an immersive gallery experience that keeps attention on the artwork.
• Manageability: create CMS tools so ARTKB can maintain exhibitions, artists, and inquiries without technical support.
• SEO and performance: optimize image delivery and add structured data to support standard and image search visibility.

Solution

We designed and developed a full-bleed gallery layout where images run edge-to-edge. The interface stays quiet, and transitions are smooth and subtle—enough to support browsing without pulling focus away from the work.

For exhibitions, we built dedicated sections for upcoming, current, and past shows. Each exhibition page includes event details such as dates, venues, featured artists, and thematic descriptions. The structure is easy to scan for visitors and straightforward for ARTKB to keep current.

We created individual artist profile pages with biographical information, curated portfolios, and exhibition history. This gave ARTKB a consistent way to present artists and helped visitors understand the context behind the work.

To support sales and commissions, we implemented a contact and inquiry system with intuitive forms that route messages directly to the appropriate ARTKB team members, keeping communication prompt and organized.

On the technical side, we implemented schema.org structured data for creative works and event listings to improve search visibility. We also optimized image delivery using responsive image handling (including WebP and JPEG), paired with a lazy-loading gallery to improve performance without sacrificing visual quality.

Results

The new site improved both engagement and day-to-day operations. Within six months of launch, online inquiries increased from an average of 2 per month to 15 per month.

Exhibition promotion improved as well: attendance saw a measured 25% increase in visitors attributable directly to digital campaigns supported by the new website.

Google image search became a meaningful acquisition channel, accounting for approximately 30% of overall visits—reflecting the impact of structured data and optimized image delivery.

Lessons

For portfolio-driven sites, the visuals and the engineering have to reinforce each other. A clean, full-bleed layout lets the work speak for itself, but performance fundamentals—responsive formats and lazy loading—are what make that experience usable.

Clear content structure also does real work. Separating exhibitions into upcoming/current/past and pairing that with consistent artist profiles makes the site easier to navigate and easier to maintain. Structured data then helps that same content show up more effectively in search—especially where images matter.
