AnnDi & Sy: a portfolio site for a Houston photography studio

Challenge

AnnDi & Sy is a two-photographer studio in Houston with two distinct offerings: warm, candid family sessions and crisp, controlled product photography. They needed a single portfolio site that made that split clear immediately—without blending everything into one mixed gallery or leaning on a busy layout to explain it.

Performance was the other hard constraint. The site depends on large, high-resolution images, so it had to load quickly, scroll smoothly, and stay easy to browse on any device.

Discovery

For photographers, the website is the product demo. If galleries feel slow, jumpy, or cluttered, visitors leave before they ever reach out. In planning, we kept the project anchored to three priorities:

• Presentation: galleries that feel curated and give the work room
• Performance: pages that stay responsive even with image-heavy content
• Conversion: a clear path from viewing work to sending an inquiry

Those priorities shaped the structure. Visitors should be able to choose the right lane (family or product) quickly, land in a gallery with minimal friction, and always see the next step when they’re ready to book.

Approach

We designed the site to stay quiet and image-forward—generous whitespace, restrained typography, and minimal interface elements—so the photography controls the page. Instead of treating the work like a generic grid of tiles, we aimed for galleries that feel intentional and curated.

To protect performance, we prioritized responsive image delivery so each device receives appropriately sized files rather than full-resolution originals. That keeps browsing smooth on phones and desktops and helps the portfolio feel effortless instead of heavy.

We also simplified the user flow: pick a category, view the work, and reach out. The goal was to keep visitors oriented as they scroll and make it easy to inquire without hunting for the right page.

With the inquiry path kept close to the work, visitors can move from viewing a gallery to sending an inquiry in a couple of taps—making the site a practical lead source instead of a static brochure.

Lessons

On photography sites, performance is part of the aesthetic. A gallery can look beautiful and still fail if it stalls on a phone. The unglamorous work—image sizing, lazy loading, and delivery—is what makes the images feel effortless and keeps attention where it belongs: on the photography.

Clarity matters just as much. When a studio offers two different services, separating them cleanly reduces hesitation and helps the right clients self-select faster.
