AnnDi & Sy: a portfolio site for a Houston photography studio

Challenge

AnnDi & Sy is a two-photographer studio in Houston with two distinct offerings: warm, candid family sessions and crisp, controlled product photography. They needed a single portfolio site that could show both bodies of work without feeling crowded or confusing. Speed was the other hard constraint. The site would be driven almost entirely by large, high-resolution images, so it had to stay quick to load and easy to browse on any device.

Discovery

For photographers, the website is the product demo. If galleries feel slow or the layout competes with the images, visitors leave before they ever reach out. In planning the build, we kept the project anchored to three priorities:

• Presentation: galleries that give the work space and feel intentional
• Performance: pages that stay responsive under heavy image weight
• Conversion: a clear path from viewing work to sending an inquiry

Those priorities shaped every decision: how the galleries are organized, how much interface we show, and how quickly someone can move from “this is the style I want” to “how do I book?”

Approach

We designed the site to be quiet and image-forward—generous whitespace, restrained typography, and minimal interface chrome—so the photography stays in control of the page. To protect performance, we focused on responsive image delivery so each device receives appropriately sized files instead of full-resolution originals. That keeps browsing smooth on phones and desktops and helps galleries feel effortless rather than heavy.

Results

AnnDi & Sy gained a presentation layer that matches the quality of the work itself—clean, focused, and built around the galleries rather than around UI. The site makes it easy to understand the two offerings quickly, then move straight into the right body of work.

Visitors can move from viewing a gallery to sending an inquiry in a couple of taps, turning the portfolio into a practical lead source instead of a static brochure.

Lessons

On photography sites, performance is part of the aesthetic. A gallery can be beautifully designed and still fail if it stalls on a phone. The unglamorous work—image sizing, lazy loading, and delivery—is what makes the images feel effortless and keeps attention on the work.
